Arrivederci Summer!

Arrivederci Summer!

We’re back from vacation (did you miss us?) and are having a hard time dealing with the fact it’s now September: how did it sneak up on us?!  With the promise of pumpkin-flavored-everything just around the corner, we’re making sure to use the long weekend to fit in as many summer-approved activities/places/foods/drinks as possible.  Here’s to the end of summer Fridays!

  1. We’d need to raid the costume department of a period drama set to stay here (which we’d totally be up for, btw)
  2. Speaking of costumes: some serious #GlamourousGoals here
  3. We’ve never been shy about our white jean obsession, so it’s no surprise we’re matching our drink to our pants before we have to put them away for the season
  4. Forgot to plan an escape for the long weekend?  Here are some last minute ideas to the rescue!
  5. Feeling the back-to-school bug?  Challenge yourself and start learning an endangered language this fall

Beach Prep 101

Beach Prep 101

With August upon us, we are in full on beach mode.  Downtime at the office has us channeling our inner #wanderlust by googling “best [insert adjective/place name/top X] beaches.” And finding some serious beach bag inspiration.  And coming up with the ultimate comprehensive beach ready packing list.  Because we’re ready to channel our inner mermaid whether we’re at the local pool, a pond in the mountains, the northeast beaches (where it’s always too cold to swim), or at a classic la spiaggia.

  1. Some of us already used up our vacation days, so we’re in research mode for 2018: these beaches are taking over our short list pretty quickly
  2. Already breezed through your summer reading list?  Here’s a fantastic “by the authors” list to replenish your stack (or kindle) for wherever you lay your beach blanket
  3. Don’t be Rudolf: here’s an easy refresher as to how to keep your beak from imitating that red-nosed reindeer
  4. Beach hair, don’t care: channel that beach vibe all week long with some serious beach inspired waves
  5. In the bag: whether you’re at the beach, the boardwalk, or Broadway, these beach-to-street bags have you covered (we love a good multi-use/multi-style bag!)

The Literal Sweet Life.

The Literal Sweet Life.

Maybe it’s the hot weather, but we’ve had a serious case of sweet tooth these days.  But instead of struggling, we’re embracing the sweet life.  This week, our internet wanderings have brought us to Italy and back, with classic desserts from both sides of the Atlantic (plus our dream road trip).  So go ahead, “treat yo self.”

  1. We’ve been fans of ordering an affogato as the perfect dessert for a while now, but now we’re thinking it’s time to start making it at home (it would be a great dinner party finale!)
  2. Sherlock and the Case of the Fake Gelato?  We’re thinking we need to do some hands-on research to up our gelato sleuth skills
  3. The iconic munchkin has some serious competition with the bomboloncini : time to get our deep-fry on
  4. More of a grill or a campfire person (or a microwave in a pinch)? It’s National S’more Day on August 10th, so it’s perfectly acceptable to spend the week perfecting your golden toasted marshmallow (or try these riffs on the classic)
  5. Pack your stretchy pants for this sweet road trip inspiration: this guide maps out 18 of the best pastry shops in Italy (we’ll take one of everything, please and thank you)

Goodbye, July.

Goodbye, July.

As we get ready for the dog days of summer to begin in earnest (hello, August!), we’re thinking of all the summery things still left to-do on our summer to-do lists. From lighthearted cocktails to soap-on-a-rope, we’re kind of all over the map this week.  But that’s the best part of summer: with the return of summer fridays you have a chance to try new things, see new places, taste a new food and/or drink (and buy new [insert noun here]).  So, without further ado, our eclectic round up of the week.

  1. Need a change of perspective and/or a dose of cuteness? Here’s your one stop shop for both (you’re welcome :)
  2. Summer packing by the pros: this guide has us bookmarking a ton of new products to try (decisions, decisions)
  3. We’ve been on a real negroni kick lately, but the warm weather has us looking for something a bit lighter: we’re thinking this second-cousin-once-removed recipe will do the trick (for those of you in NYC, take a field trip to the bar at Lincoln for a build-your-own-negroni experience par excellence)
  4. Missing summer camp? How about arts & crafts hour?  Bring back the memories with a little DIY soap-on-a-rope (if only for the fun of saying “soap-on-a-roap” over and over again)
  5. It’s the final stretch of wedding season: keep it all in perspective with this “innovative” way of being picked for the bridal party (it’s one way to deal, we suppose…)

  2. Need to escape the sidewalk smells of NYC? Make sure to catch this retrospective before it closes at the end of the month (it’s overwhelmingly cool and chic)

  3. Not moving from the prime spot in front of your window AC unit? Take this quiz to get a jumpstart on your armchair traveling this weekend

  4. Looking for something to chat about around the watercooler come Monday? Take your pick of the summer films with this “must see movie” guide

  5. When all else fails to beat the heat, grab a popsicle: these boozy pops will have you rethinking cocktail hour

Pardon our French.

Pardon our French.

We’re channeling our inner Parisian on this Bastille Day to celebrate the storming of the Bastille and all things French. Get around this weekend with La Nicoletta: with her lush red velvet and elegant little wedge she’s got a certain je ne sais quoi…

  1. Easy as un, deux, trois: Eric Kayser, of Maison Kayser takes us through how to celebrate Bastille Day like a True Parisian (+ some recipes included).
  2. Chanel. Balenciaga. YSL. Oh my! 140 little black dresses will be offered at auction celebrating the timeless wardrobe piece and Haute Couture.
  3. Class is in session: you too can master French cooking. Take a spin around Julia Child’s home in Provence and book an all-inclusive retreat vacation.
  4. Let us eat cake? How about Food 52’s Croissant French Toast. Please, pardon our French.
  5. ICYMI: the International Olympic Committee plans to award Paris and LA a bid to host the next round of Games (stayed tuned as to when to pack your skates).

Back to the Basics.

Back to the Basics.

Here's where you can find us next: buried deep in a new novel, firing up the grill, or channelling the Royal Family at the Wimbledon. Read on for our tips for the weekend (hint: you may not even need a passport).

3. Our prayers have been answered-- Italy has just gotten a little bit closer. Don't miss the life-size reproduction of Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel at the Westfield World Trade mall.

4. Pizza is a major food group, right? Sure you can have it delivered anytime, but here are 12 summer pizzas ready to make on the grill

5. Is wanderlust in your DNA? Some scientists think so. But we think it’s catching: we've always got the travel bug.

Cheers to La Vie en Rose.

Cheers to La Vie en Rose.

This Friday we celebrate National Pink Day and all things rose colored. Get to know La Gabriella: Idoni’s solution to living La Vie en Rose (hint: she’s not your average ballerina slipper).

This week life was good. Highs: celebrating the summer solstice and marking the official start to summer. Lows: getting caught in the rain with a broken umbrella. Here’s to life in rose colored glasses:

  1. Your weekend how-to: up your mimosa game with Delish’s Pink Lemonade Mimosas. Yeah, we fancy.
  2. That sound you hear is us zipping our luggage and heading to summer vacation. But before you go, here are tips on how to pack everything from your luscious mascara to your classic blush.
  3. Stop and smell the roses: discover the Roseto Fineschi Rose Garden, now open for the season, exhibiting over 6,500 species of roses.
  4. The summer solstice: it came, it went, we celebrated. But what really was it that brought us that pinky dusk sky? Geek out with this short guide.
  5. Add this to our wanderlust list: scientists believe they have rediscovered the lost Eighth Wonder of the World made of white and pink cascading rocks.
